Go-to-market

The plan survives contact with a buyer, or it was never a plan.

Go-to-market strategy for founders in India taking their own product to market: who buys, at what price, through which channel, and who does the selling. If you are a company from outside India looking for an India entry mandate, that is different work — there is a section for you further down.

01Who this is for

Founders selling a product they built, in India.

Named plainly, because on this search almost nobody does. Four of the firms on the first page describe a practice rather than a client, and a founder cannot tell from any of them whether their call would be taken.

This is for you if

  • You have raised pre-seed or seed funding, or you have early revenue.
  • You are selling to businesses — in India, or from India to customers abroad.
  • Someone is already selling, it is probably you, and it is not transferring to anyone else.
  • You need to know which channel, at what price, before you hire against it.

Probably not us if

  • You want demand generation executed — performance marketing, search, content production. We set the strategy; an agency runs the channel.
  • You are a company from outside India looking for market entry, incorporation and distributor appointment. Different mandate, and we say what we do about it below.
  • You have not spoken to a buyer yet. Start with the readiness check. Founder readiness check →
02What goes wrong

Four failures we are called in for, and one of them is specific to India.

Each of these is sourced and dated, because a page that asserts what founders get wrong without showing its working is just confident.

01

The motion works, and only you can run it.

Founder-led selling closes deals through conviction, relationships and the ability to change the product mid-conversation. None of that is written down, so a first sales hire inherits a quota and no mechanism. The work is to separate what closed the deal from who closed it — before the hire, not after.

From our own engagements. The failure rates for first sales hires that circulate online trace back to nothing we could verify, so we do not repeat them.

02

The price was set by looking sideways.

Matching a competitor assumes that competitor found the willingness to pay. In India that assumption tends to be wrong in the same direction for everyone in a category at once, because the paying class is far narrower than the addressable one: Blume Ventures puts India’s consuming class at an outer limit of roughly 30 million households, about a tenth of the country. Across Simon-Kucher’s global study, average price realisation has fallen to 43%.

03

Your channel choice is a working-capital decision you did not know you were making.

An enterprise motion that wins logos and collects at seventy-odd days will kill a company carrying nine months of runway. The Indian SME average is 73 days to settle an invoice, against the 45-day cap the MSMED Act puts on agreed terms, and roughly ₹8.1 lakh crore of MSME money sits in delayed payments. On a whiteboard that is a channel choice. On a bank statement it is a solvency choice.

04

There was no fit to go to market with.

The most common finding in a diagnostic is that the go-to-market problem is a product-market-fit problem wearing a sales costume. Of 431 startup shutdowns studied by CB Insights in March 2026, 43% showed poor product-market fit and 19% unsustainable unit economics. Hiring salespeople against a motion that does not yet repeat converts a fixable problem into an expensive one.

03How the work runs

Diagnose, then build, then hand it back.

Published as a sequence rather than a philosophy, because a sequence can be checked against your own next two weeks.

  1. Weeks 1–2

The Strategic Diagnostic. We interview you and your team, read the model and the pipeline, and test the plan against four forcing functions. You get the three to five areas that will move the business most, ranked, with the evidence behind each, and a 90-day roadmap.

  2. Then

We work the top-ranked areas with your team in weekly sprints: segment and ideal customer, pricing and packaging, channel choice, and the sales process with a named owner.

  3. Throughout

Everything is written down as we go — the segment definition, the pricing logic, the qualification criteria, the objection handling. This is the part that makes a first sales hire possible.

  4. Exit

We are trying to become unnecessary. The measure of the engagement is that your team runs the motion without us, and the written method is the mechanism for that.

04What it costs

What it costs, and why nobody else will tell you.

No firm on the first page of this search publishes anything about price. We are not going to pretend we can quote your engagement before we have scoped it — but we can tell you the shape, what the two weeks produce, and what this work actually costs in India, which is more than you will find anywhere else on that search.

The shape

The diagnostic
Two weeks, fixed scope, a flat fee quoted after a first call. Credited in full if you continue with us.
The advisory work after it
A fixed fee against a scope agreed in writing before anything starts. You get the number before you commit to it, not after.
Never a success fee
Nothing we charge is contingent on a fundraise, a revenue target or any other outcome. Contingent structures are openly marketed in this market, including by a firm on the first page of this search. We do not use them.
GST
Everything is quoted exclusive of GST at 18%, and the quote says so.

What the two weeks produce

  • Two weeks at fixed scope, with our founder doing the work rather than supervising it.
  • Interviews with you and the team members who touch the customer.
  • The three to five areas that will move the business most, ranked, with the evidence behind each.
  • A 90-day roadmap: milestones, owners and how each will be measured.
  • The assumptions your plan depends on, rated by evidence and risk.
  • A 90-minute readout with your leadership team, and the written findings to keep.
  • It is not an introduction to investors, a valuation, or legal or tax advice.
  • It is not a market research report. We are testing your plan, not sizing your category.

05If you are entering India from outside

Different mandate, and here is the honest version.

Several firms ranking for this search specialise in India entry for foreign companies: market assessment, entity setup, distributor appointment, localisation. That is a real discipline and it is not ours. What we do is the commercial question underneath it — whether the proposition holds for an Indian buyer, at an Indian price, through a channel that collects on time. We do not incorporate entities, appoint distributors, or advise on inbound regulatory approvals.

We also work the India–Finland corridor in both directions, which is a relationship business rather than a volume one.

06Questions

What founders ask before the first call.

What does a go-to-market consultant actually do?

Decides who you sell to, at what price, through which channel, and who does the selling — then builds the mechanism so it runs without the founder. The strategy and the mechanism are the work. Running a channel day to day is an agency’s job, and making the sales calls is yours.

How much do consultants charge in India?

There is no independent benchmark. Published Indian firm day rates run from roughly ₹12,000 to ₹80,000 and above by seniority, retainers from about ₹25,000 a month, and Indian go-to-market freelancers on Upwork at US$21–50 an hour, with 18% GST on top. Our diagnostic is a flat fee quoted after a first call, and the advisory work after it is a fixed fee against a written scope.

Who are the best go-to-market consultants in India?

We are not going to rank ourselves against other firms on our own website, and you should discount any page that does. What we would ask instead: can they name the buyer they serve, will they publish how an engagement runs, and will they tell you what it costs before you are in a sales process? Those three answers separate the field quickly.

Do you execute, or only advise?

We build the mechanism with your team and hand it back. We do not run your paid channels or make your sales calls, and a firm promising both is usually doing neither well.

How is this different from hiring a fractional CRO or VP Sales?

A fractional executive runs the function while they are there. We are trying to leave you with something that still works after we go, which is why the written method matters more than our hours.

How long until we see something?

The roadmap at the end of week two names what should change in the first 90 days and how it will be measured. Whether it changes depends on execution, and most of that execution is yours.

Will you sign an NDA?

Yes, before anything substantive is shared.

Do you take equity instead of fees?

Normally fees. Occasionally part of a fee can be taken as a small advisory equity grant, agreed in writing and disclosed. It is never tied to a fundraise.

Two weeks, a fixed scope, and a written answer.

Or a 45-minute call with Dineshwara first, if you would rather talk before you buy anything.
